Subject: '' Who is Being Provocative? ''

To The Editor,
It must be great to own the nation's self described newspaper of record as well as most of the rest of the nation's media outlets. It is because of such ownership that you can quote, without comment Israel's racist and war mongering foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, who describes the passage of a few minor Iranian warships through the Suez Canal to Syria as an example of '' Iran's recurring provocations ''. Of course no mention is made in the Times' article of the several nuclear armed Israeli submarines that have been operating in the Persian Gulf for the last several years. To expect such kind of balance would presuppose adherence to the standards of objective and impartial journalism which of course does not exist in the United States when it comes to the Middle East. As with anything connected to Israel, the media simply behaves an an instrument of Zionist propaganda!

Proving that there's no end or limit to hate filled propaganda. And we all know, it's destined to win all kinds of J-inspired awards.

To think, many young and/or weak minded individuals will just assume this is what actually happened. Emphasis the need for revisionist to turn up the heat.

Columbia U. Professor wants Government-Proof Internet

Columbia U. Professor Tries to Build Government-Proof Internet

February 16, 2011, 2:54 pm

Eben Moglen, an expert on computers and privacy and a law professor at Columbia Law School, is alarmed by Egypt's recent success at isolating that country from the rest of the Internet. So alarmed, in fact, that he has accelerated his efforts to build an "Internet in a box" that would operate independently of governments and big companies, according to The New York Times.

His idea is to create small (the size of cellphone chargers) network servers that he calls "Freedom Boxes." They run low-power chips, plug into the wall, and can be built for under $100. (Watch this video on how they work.)  The specifics are vague, because the software to turn them into wide-ranging network devices doesn't exist yet. But the idea is that the boxes will be owned by individuals and link together, forming independent networks that do not rely on commercial Internet service providers. That's important because such companies are vulnerable to government pressure—the kind of pressure that cut Egypt off from the rest of the world when protests started there. Mr. Moglen has started the Freedom Box Foundation to kick-start software development efforts for these little servers.

The Internet has come a long way, from a network created by the U.S. government and large institutions (including four universities) to one that people want to protect from that same government.

Two news items that shock the brain...

Though the U.S. presidential primaries are still a year from now, a different sort of contest is underway in Israel . Beginning Saturday, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will be the third potential GOP presidential candidate to visit the Jewish state since the first of the year, and the second during the protests in neighboring Egypt . Barbour will arrive on the heels of Mike Huckabee, who spent much of the week touring the country, and Mitt Romney, who swung through in January. And like Romney and Huckabee, Barbour is expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and tour some holy sites.
