AL-KHALIL, Child captive Moataz Azmy Shuyoukhi was released from jail by Israeli authorities on Tuesday night following a three month stay in Ofer prison after paying a fine of 500 dollars.
The military court in the Ofer detention center sentenced 16-year-old Shuyoukhi to actual imprisonment for three months, in addition to the fine, on allegations of participating in anti-Israel demonstrations and throwing stones at soldiers, placing soldiers' lives at risk and wounding one of them.
The court refused to release Shuyoukhi on bail as requested by the defense counsel who refuted the charges against him, asserting that the child referred to had participated in a peaceful demonstration accompanied by his father, journalist Azmi Shuyoukhi. The demonstration was attended by hundreds of Palestinians, international activists, representatives from embassies, and both Arab and foreign delegates.
Shuyoukhi's family confirmed that he was tortured during his detention and interrogation, noting that there are still signs of torture visible on his hands, head, and other parts of the body.
In another incident, Israeli occupation forces issued an order for seven-year-old Mohsen Youssef Awad from the town of Beit in northern Al-Khalil, to appear before intelligence to be interviewed.
Meanwhile, IOF troops arrested seven Palestinians Wednesday morning in several areas of the West Bank.
