Shouldn't Helen Thomas to be castigated for her silence on those issues, as well as many others, while praising her for her question to Obama about Israel's nuclear weapons and her forthrightness about the Palestine issue?Anthony Lawson
The answer is no...and it is a silly question. No personal offense to Anthony but this really needs an airing.
You can't find anyone, even the most distinguished historians and journalists in history, where they 'have not spoken out against something'. So what is the point in tearing them down this way? Does it hurt or help our common enemies?
Where this comes from is a natural frustration of particular issue people wanting other folks to aggressively promote their main issue. But this always comes at the expense of someone else's issue not being promoted.
For example the grass roots TeaParty folks have done a great job in putting a dent in out political incumbency problem, and the Christian orgs have stood up against the ethnic cleansing of America's religious heritage. But have they lifted a finger on the massive Israeli espionage that has gone on here for decades? No.
I read a TeaParty leader who openly said they were going to stay away from 'social issues' (as divisive) to concentrate on financial ones.
Where this was coming from was Republican committee infiltration of the TeaParty (providing most of their funding and logistics now) to steer them away from 'complicating' issues.
When we have a 100 key issues that need to be dealt with, our minders like to hone this down to about three or four polling questions. If your issue is not on this list then you have to 'buy' influence. Welcome to our modern democracy.
