Is Jared Lee Loughner Jewish?

The Jewish Telegraph Agency picked up the Fox memo and ran with it, emphasizing the idea that Loughner targeted Giffords because she was Jewish: "Memo Notes Giffords' Judaism in Motives of Alleged Attacker." American Renaissance is (absurdly) described as "anti-ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government) [and] anti-Semitic."

However, Mother Jones reports that Jared Lee Loughner's best friend claims that Loughner's mother is Jewish. This would seem to be a problem for the anti-Semitism motive.  According to the friend, Loughner disliked Giffords because she didn't answer a his question at a public meeting. The question: "'What is government if words have no meaning?"

In other words, he is a nut case who has trouble with distinguishing real from unreal. From the description provided by the friend, it looks to me like some kind of schizophrenia–for example, believing in an alternate reality where he could fly and where he could dream anything he wanted and make it seem real.

In fact one of his YouTube videos combines the nutcase theme with the Jewish theme. In "My Final Thoughts: Jared Lee Loughner!" he says,  "If B.C.E. years are unable to start then A.D.E years are unable to begin. B.C.E. years are unable to start. Thus, A.D.E years are unable to begin." (See here.) Besides the weirdness of the syllogism, B.C.E. stands for Before Common Era, a way of referring to the year Christ was born without referring to anything Christian that is common among Jewish scholars. Non-Jews don't use it unless they are trying to impress Jews with their respect for Jewish hostility toward Christianity.

But the A.D.E. is not standard usage for anyone. Jewish scholars just write C.E.–Common Era and the rest of us use A.D. So maybe it's just another aspect of his craziness.

Who knows?

But the reference to his interest in semiotics (as stated in Mother Jones) is interesting. This would necessarily be attached to structuralism and semiotics today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiotics

The writers in that canon would be all from the New Left (following after Saussere into Lacan, Derrida, Foucault, and perhaps most importantly Althusser). These books are taught in all humanities programs, or at least their perspectives.

Saussere in the hands of a 22 year-old –who would be reading over his head with no instruction— may have confused him in regards to the relation of words and meaning. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Structuralism)

Few in the general public perhaps would connect what he is saying to the New Left and studies in the connections between words and meaning. This can be unsettling for someone who is young, nor schooled in the connections between signs and symbols and meaning (structuralism, the new left, semiotics, semantics, the Prague and Moscow schools).

Perhaps— (crazy though he is) he seems trying to articulate what might be commonplace in semiotics studies while reading the New Left, like in universities, (where signs are simply signs, not connected to things to which they refer, and are studied as such). One non-jew involved (outside Lacan, Derrida, etc.) was Kenneth Burke and this recalls his "A Grammar of Motives" or Language as Symbolic Action. (He was educated in the 20s at Columbia University).

Anyhow— he may have been somehow exposed to some of these New Left materials without instruction or a way to understand (or been exposed to the "filtered down" ideas in these studies.

Obviously, the New Left here is offering ways of thinking about signs, symbols and meaning that are not usually studied by many people, except in colleges.

Giffords, 40, was raised "mixed" by a Christian Scientist mother and Jewish father, but said that after a visit to Israel in 2001, she had decided she was Jewish only. She attended services at a local Reform synagogue.

She made her Jewish identity part of her campaign:

"If you want something done, your best bet is to ask a Jewish woman to do it," said Giffords, a former state senator, said at the time. "Jewish women — by our tradition and by the way we were raised — have an ability to cut through all the reasons why something should, shouldn't or can't be done and pull people together to be successful."

US Homeland Security memo reportedly says Giffords being a Jew may have been a factor in shooting, cites links to anti-Semitic group.
 
NEW YORK – A US Department of Homeland Security memorandum reportedly notes the fact that Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is a Jew may have a factor in the motives of the Arizona congresswoman's alleged assailant.

FOX News, reporting on the memorandum it obtained Sunday night, said that "strong suspicion is being direceted (sic) at American Renaissance," an organization the shooter Jared Loughner referenced on the Internet, and said that federal law enforcement authorities are investigating Loughner's possible links to American Renaissance.

According to the memorandum, American Renaissance is "anti government, anti immigration, anti ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government), anti Semitic." The memo notes that Giffords is the first Jewish woman elected to high office in Arizona. Investigators are also pursuing Loughner's alleged anti-Semitism.

American Renaissance leaders said in a posting on their website Sunday that Loughner had never subscribed to their magazine, registered for any of the group's conferences or visited their Internet site.

Giffords was first elected to Congress in 2006, and made her Jewish identity part of her campaign.

"If you want something done, your best bet is to ask a Jewish woman to do it," Giffords, a former state senator, said at the time, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported. "Jewish women – by our tradition and by the way we were raised – have an ability to cut through all the reasons why something should, shouldn't or can't be done, and pull people together to be successful."

More than 100 people crowded into a special healing service Sunday morning for Giffords at Congregation Chaverim, the Reform Tucson congregation where Giffords was married three years ago, according to The New York Times. Giffords's rabbi, friends and admirers gathered to pray for a speedy recovery for the congresswoman.

Rabbi Stephanie Aaron, the leader of Congregation Chaverim, said that Giffords has been an instrument of tikkun olam, the Times reported.

"In Jewish practice, we have an idea of repairing the world," Rabbi Aaron said. Giffords, she added, "was very active in doing that work and being a pursuer of justice."

Loughner had apparently had contact with Giffords prior to Saturday's shooting. Court papers filled with the charges against Jared Loughner said he received a letter from Giffords in which she thanked him for attending a "Congress on your Corner" event at a mall in Tucson in 2007.

Additionally, investigators carrying out a search warrant at Loughner's parents' home, where the shooter resided, found an envelope in a safe with the words "I planned ahead," "My assassination" and the name "Giffords" next to what appears to be Loughner's signature.

Authorities would not disclose where Loughner was being held, and officials were working to appoint an attorney for him before a scheduled Monday afternoon court appearance in Phoenix.

Heather Williams, the first assistant federal public defender in Arizona, said a request has been made that San Diego attorney Judy Clarke be appointed to represent Loughner.

Clarke, a former federal public defender in San Diego and Spokane, Washington, served on teams that defended Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Timothy McVeigh, "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski and Susan Smith, a South Carolina woman who drowned her two sons in 1994.

Jewish control of the media is a taboo topic. In Congress, among evangelicals and mainline conservative talk radio, it is never mentioned. It is discussed only in snatches on far Right alternative talk radio.

This is astonishing, considering that almost every substantial library in America contains a number of books confirming such Jewish control. These include Neil Gabler's An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood and Hoberman and Shandler's Entertaining America: Jews, Movies, and Broadcasting.

These encyclopedic histories of Jewish control of the American media outdo any efforts by so-called "anti-Semites" to document an astonishing, frightening fact: The majority of media news and information to the American public comes from Jews.

An authoritative Jewish website, "Judaism Online," (www.simpletoremember.com) in its article, "Jewish Success in the American Media," documents Jewish media preeminence. It does so not from motives of anti-Semitism, but from Jewish pride. Its 2002 list of many Jewish superstars in the media today is printed, in part, below.

Of course, there are more Gentiles than Jews in the America media, as in America at large. But notice how many Jews are in control of media giants. This helps explain why the Jewish media is so relentlessly anti-Christian, constantly pushing immorality and the liberal, Zionist political agenda.

Why are Christians always marginalized in films and TV? Why is the Palestinian perspective not included in the news? Face the forbidden truth: the media speaks with a Jewish voice.

Ted Pike comments: Judaism Online's list presents only the most outstanding, well-recognized Jews in the American media. I could name hundreds more from the top ranks of Jewish media leadership. Such names are readily available from corporate directories such as Standard and Poor's and Lexis Nexus.

Yes, some of the Jewish superstars listed above are political conservatives. Yet studies of top-level Jewish media executives prove they are overwhelming liberal. The famous Lichter-Rothman poll in the early 1980s found that top media executives were radically out of step with the moral values of the American public.

97% affirm a woman's right to an abortion if she pleases. 80% disagree that homosexuality is wrong. 86% believe homosexuals have the right to be schoolteachers. 51% believe adultery is permissible. Of 104 top executives polled, 59% were "raised in the Jewish religion."

Does it matter who dominates the media? It does! The media shapes not only our children's values and actions but our own. The Jewish media has normalized sexual degeneracy, profanity and all kinds of sin. It also leads us into war to make the Mid-East safe for Israel. This happened in Afghanistan, Iraq and, tomorrow, Iran.

If an anti-Christian agenda were being advanced by Moonies or Scientologists, dominating the most powerful positions of media leadership in America, there would be a howl of protest. Americans would demand Congressional hearings and investigations. But because the Jewish media has forbidden identification of itself as Jewish, vilifying such as anti-Semitism, a deafening silence prevails. Meanwhile, relentless evil continues to control the spigot of information from which America drinks.
