Alan Bersin, who was appointed Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in March this year, explained his new policy last week in a speech at the Migration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C. According to Mr. Bersin, who oversees the operations of CBP's 57,000-employee work force and manages an operating budget of more than $11 billion, the United States needs to undertake a "paradigm shift" in how it views the U.S.–Mexico border. "This will include a road to citizenship for illegal aliens" and an understanding that the "best way" to secure the border is to allow Mexicans to work in the United States legally. "What is needed is a legitimate labor market between the United States and Mexico," said Mr. Bersin. "Underlying this new vision is a paradigm shift—a change in how people view the border. Historically, governments have approached border management as, essentially, 'holding the line.' "But the border isn't an isolated place disconnected from the interiors of the United States and Mexico." Mr. Bersin called for a "long road to citizenship" for illegal aliens who choose to become U.S. citizens. Mr. Bersin obviously does not know too much about the border he is supposed to protect. According to an article in the El Centro, California-based Imperial Valley Press News, one of the "main threats to regional security is the possibility of violence from Mexicali spilling across the border." Quoting Calexico Police Chief Jim Neujahr, the newspaper revealed that violence was building on the Mexican side of the border and was now a serious threat to America and Americans. "I think that as violence builds on their side, that's what will be affecting us," Mr. Neujahr said. Calexico Port Director Billy Whitford was also quoted as saying that they "have to be prepared at our ports of entry in order to deal with potential threats to border violence coming across the border." Even more worryingly, the paper quoted local academic, and Imperial Valley campus criminal justice professor, Michael Sabath as saying that the Mexican drug cartels had become the de facto government in many areas of Mexico along the border. "You have the drug cartels that are supplanting government functions and it's a very dangerous situation to get into," he was quoted as saying. Now, the question has to be asked: Does Mr. Bersin live on the same planet, or in the same country, as the rest of us? Mexican criminal violence is a serious threat along the border, and millions of illegals inside America are destroying the very fabric of our nation. Mr. Bersin's answer to this escalating problem is to encourage even more immigration by offering legalization, making it easier for ever increasing numbers of Mexicans to cross the border to "seek work." The American Third Position argues that the only way to reduce the growing Third World immigration problem is to crack down on illegal immigrants, deport them, and close the border to further invasion. Anything less is little short of treason to the safety and security of our nation. |

The "Hispanic Scholarship Fund" (HSF) says that it "aims to put a degree in every Latino household by 2025" through its affirmative action program in college recruitment. Funding for the HSF comes from a large number of corporations, which, according to that organization's website, include the FedEx Corporation; the Mazda Foundation; KLASS Time; GMAC Financial Services; Lowe's; the McNamara Family Foundation, Inc.; Goldman Sachs; Procter & Gamble; Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc.; the Verizon Foundation; McDonald's; Target; the Morgan Stanley Foundation; Nissan North America, Inc.; the Sallie Mae Fund; Wells Fargo; the Draper Family Foundation; the Shell Oil Company; the Wachovia Foundation and the UPS Foundation, amongst many others. The HSF says specifically that it is only for "Latinos" and those of Hispanic descent. It obviously does not concern these corporations in the slightest that their money is used specifically to exclude white Americans from support. On the HSF's website, under their "Frequently Asked Questions" section, the policy is spelled out in no uncertain terms: "Do I have to be Hispanic/Latino to apply?" is the question the website asks. The answer is equally frank: "Yes. You or your family must be descended from at least one of the following countries: Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico, or the Dominican Republic. Students from Brazil are eligible to apply. However, students from Belize, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana are not considered Hispanic." The HSF says that it aims to "raise the rate of degree achievement [amongst Hispanics] from 19 percent to 60 percent." According to Andy Pino, spokesman for the organization, during the last 35 years the organization has awarded about $300 million in scholarships to more than 50,000 Hispanic students. Latinos have the lowest high school and college graduation rates of any racial or ethnic group. The American Third Position has no problem with Hispanics organizing their own college funds. What we do have a problem with is the failure of these major corporations to set up such funds for white American kids. Currently, 29.7 percent of native born white Americans have a college degree. Given that there are in excess of 211 million white Americans, as opposed to 42 million Hispanics in the U.S, this means that pro rata the Hispanic population already has a higher degree rate than white Americans. Why then, do these corporations see fit to actively promote Hispanics above white Americans? |
