I just read an interesting and revealing comment on Judaism from British philosopher Bryan Magee:
'Of the religions I have studied, the one I found least worthy of intellectual respect was Judaism. I have no desire to offend any of my readers, but the truth is that while reading foundational Jewish texts I often found myself thinking: "How can anyone possibly believe this?" When I put that question to Jewish friends they often said that no intelligent Jew did. To quote the precise words of one: "There's no a single intelligent Jew in the country who believes the religion." What they do believe, they tell me, is that it is desirable that traditional observances should be kept be at least some Jews because it is these observances more than anything else that give the Jewish people its identity, and therefore its cohesion; but that the doctrinal content or implications of the observances are not expected to be taken with full intellectual seriousness by intelligent people.'
This comment is revealing in many ways. It typifies that Judaism is, first and foremost, a group evolutionary strategy by a genetically distinct population. Secondly, it reveals why the average Western secular Jew is sanguine about supporting Gush Emunin and other ultra-orthodox movements in Israel. They know that Judaism is a racial-nationalist movement decked out in the garb of religion and that what counts most, over and above doctrinal truth, is the group cohesion of Jews as a distinct ethnic community.
At the same time both religious and secular Jews are fiercely opposed to manifestations of group cohesion on the part of white people – in the eyes of most Jews we are all, no matter what our politics, proto-Nazis. That's why they aggressively pursue the destruction of the pillars of Western civilisation – white group cohesion, Christianity, marriage, the nuclear family, patriotism – as aggressively as the Allies imposed the denazification policy in Germany in the 1940s and 1950s. Most Jews essentially make no distinction.
