For artists unable to submit original works due to distance or size, you may still submit jpeg's of original art and be represented by an enlarged print. 3rd Annual Holocaust commemoration International Arts Event

 

 

Call for Artists

art6Gallery of Richmond is proud to host its Third Annual International Holocaust Remembrance Event, July, 2011.

As in previous years, invitation is open to local, national and international artists of all media, from poetry to dance; painting to collage and sculpture; from performance art to plastic arts. In previous years art6 hosted an original movie by internationally acclaimed Hungarian artist, Istvan Horkay; two original Holocaust-theme plays by nationally known Richmond playwright and actor, Slash Coleman. Original musical compositions by award-winning American composer Alan Blank, husband ofRichmond painter and Holocaust survivor, Margot Blank, z"l were performed. We have also hosted musicians, poets and a Shoah-theme story-teller.

Works in all media are welcome. Where transportation costs are a deterrent for original works, photographic representation may submitted by email attachment, with printing at no cost to artist.

In addition to his movie, Bolzano's Gold, Istvan Horkay was represented by a suite of 60 photomontages related to the theme of his cinematic art.

art6Gallery thanks Virginia Holocaust Museum and Richmond's Weinstein Jewish Community Center for their generous assistance and participation.

Event opening is Friday, 1 July, 2011 at Richmond's art6Gallery.

The Holocaust is a tragedy in our history but, as with our people throughout history, expressed in light and life and, yes, also with joy and laughter. l'Haim!

The Wikileaks founder defended the organisation's "enviable record" at the Hay Festival

Julian Assange appeared at The Telegraph Hay Festival to defend Wikileaks' "enviable record" and claimed that the FBI had tried to bribe the organisation's staff.
The founder of the whistle-blowing website disclosed his group would publish more leaked documents in the future. He also threatened to break controversial super-injunctions if the details were leaked to him.

During an hour-long appearance, Mr Assange insisted that "the internet does not give you free speech".

He said that those revealing secrets online were "hounded from one end of the earth to the other". His speech was watched by a series of well-known personalities including Vanessa Redgrave and Ralph Fiennes.
Mr Assange added that his group had faced numerous recent challenges, including attempts by the FBI to try and bribe employees.

Mr Assange pointed out that Wikileaks had published details of "five or six" super-injunctions in the past. However, in a bizarre moment, he admitted that Wikileaks might resort to a super-injunction in order to protect its sources.

"There probably is a circumstance where we would [apply for a super-injunction]," said Mr Assange.

Mr Assange also accused the British public of "a rather annoying middle-class squeamishness" over the publication of secret cables and documents.

"It would rather destroy an entire revolution," said Mr Assange.
He insisted that he had seen no evidence that anyone had lost their lives as a result of Wikileaks disclosures, despite American Government warnings that this would occur.

"We have a perfect record, and an enviable record that I am proud of," he said.
But he indicated that opening up societies around the world may mean fatalities are a price worth paying.

Mr Assange was heckled by the Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow as he answered a question about Private Bradley Manning, who has been accused of leaking secret documents to Wikileaks.

Private Manning is currently being held in Fort Leavenworth after being arrested just over a year ago.

"He's your Bradley Manning," shouted Mr Snow when Mr Assange raised the issue of political prisoners around the world. The Wikileaks founder expressed support for the plight of Mr Manning and thousands of other "political prisoners" who he said are held without good reason.

Mr Assange also described his time in solitary confinement in prison.

Mr Assange is currently fighting extradition to Sweden, where he has faced allegations of sexual assault.

This says that Christmas cards and the like, with small amounts of money, will [probably?] get through to Austrians Wolfgang Fröhlich and Gerd Honsik provided everything is in German. Their addresses are given.


Strictly speaking, this would seem to rule out Christmas cards that have "Merry Christmas" or "Season's Greetings" printed on them.

La révisionniste vaudoise Mariette Paschoud nous annonce une bonne nouvelle:
son intervention auprès du ministère de la justice autrichien à la suite du
retour avec la mention "refusé" des courriers (une carte de voeux et cinq
euros) qu'elle avait adressés [ce fut le cas d'autres correspondants] à Gerd
Honsik et à Wolfgang Fröhlich à l'occasion des fêtes de fin d'année a été
prise en compte.
   
Le 10 février, Mariette Paschoud avait renvoyé, par recommandé, cartes
et argent directement au ministère de la justice autrichien, avec une lettre
en allemand dans laquelle elle demandait qu'on transmette ses courriers aux
prisonniers ou alors qu'on lui explique les raisons du traitement spécial
(Sonderbehandlung!) dont ils étaient l'objet.
   
Le 30 mai, Wolfgang Fröhlich a adressé à Mariette Paschoud une carte de
remerciements dans laquelle il lui signale que "[son] recours a été couronné
de succès".

On peut donc à nouveau adresser du courrier à ces deux prisonniers,
accompagné ou non de quelques billets, mais nous ne saurions trop
recommander de rédiger ces courriers en allemand. Pour les
