ISRAEL MURDERS AGAIN (in international waters) - a series of reports

Assalaamu Alaikum:

This is coming to our readers from Connecticut on the final day of the ICNA-MAS Convention. I regret having to report that the cause of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui never made it to any of the conventions main sessions. (More on this later, insha'Allah.)

It has come to my attention that once again Israel has blatantly, and murderously, violated clearly established international law and claimed a number of innocent lives in the process. What follows are a series of representative reports on the current crisis in the Middle East, along with info on a number of protest mobilizations currently underway.

In the struggle for peace thru justice,

El-Hajj Mauri' Saalakhan

As I write this piece the scale of the Israeli lethal slaughter at sea is yet to be clear. However we already know that at around 4am Gaza time, hundreds of IDF commandos stormed the Free Gaza international humanitarian fleet. We learn from the Arab press that at least 16 peace activists have been murdered and more than 50 were injured.  Once again it is devastatingly obvious that Israel is not trying to hide its true nature: an inhuman murderous collective  fuelled by a psychosis and driven by paranoia.

Subject: Israel Attacks U.S. Ship In International Waters (again)

One boat in the aid convoy is flagged and registered in the United States. The ship is U.S. territory under maritime law, and the U.S. government is required to intervene if this "U.S. property" is attacked or illegally confiscated by Israeli authorities.

Peace activists aboard the Turkish ship, Mavi Marmara, with hundreds of aid workers and activists aboard, report that they have been attacked. At least 20 persons have been killed at last report and over 50 more wounded. Israeli commandos apparently lowered themselves onto the Mavi Marmara with ropes. Passengers range in age from 88 to a year old and include Christians, Muslims and Jews seeking to end the blockade.

Film footage from the vessel showed armed Israeli soldiers boarding the ship and helicopters flying overhead. Israelis shot indiscriminately into groups of sleeping civilians.

Technically speaking, Israel has committed an act of war against Turkey by attacking a ship sailing under the Turkish flag in international waters. Months ago when the mission was in the planning stages, Turkey predicted dire consequences should the Israels attack their ship. The Israeli ambassador was summoned to the Turkish foreign ministry Monday after the incident.

"The ambassador (Gabby Levy) was summoned to the foreign ministry. We will convey our reaction in the strongest terms," the diplomat said. Shortly afterwards, Israeli military censors ordered a block on all information regarding those injured or killed during the storming of the ship.

No weapons are onboard the humanitarian aid convoy. Gunfire was heard under the cover of darkness. Hundreds of elected officials, former diplomats, aid workers and activists, including a Nobel laureate and many European legislators, are with the flotilla, traveling by sea to Gaza to break Israel's blockade of the tiny strip of land.

Evidently they are witnessing Israel's brutality and murderous intentions first hand.  Israel is showing itself as a terrorist state, founded and established by acts of terrorism and sustained by state terrorism.

One boat in the aid convoy is flagged and registered in the United States. The ship is U.S. territory under maritime law, and the U.S. government is required to intervene if this "U.S. property" is attacked or illegally confiscated by Israeli authorities.

As of this writing, the attack is ongoing, the total dead and wounded will most likely increase.

Israelis supposedly took over the convoy. Waiting for international reaction...silence? excuses? glossing over? strong words with nothing to back it up? U.S. sending more weapons to Israel by federal express mail??

EUROPEAN UNION Brussels, 28 May 2010

Statement by the spokesperson of High Representative Catherine Ashton on the flotilla sailing to Gaza

The spokesperson of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission Catherine Ashton issued a following statement today:

"We strongly urge that all involved act with a sense of restraint and responsibility and work for a constructive resolution. The EU remains gravely concerned by the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The continued policy of closure is unacceptable and politically counterproductive. We would like to reiterate the EU's call for an immediate, sustained and unconditional opening of crossings for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and persons to and from Gaza."

Iran blasts Israeli raid on aid convoy
Mon, 31 May 2010 08:27:36 GMT
Saeed Jalili

The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council has vehemently condemned Israel's brutal attack on an aid convoy headed for Gaza, saying it shows the Israel's "sheer desperation."

"Under growing pressure from world public opinion, the criminal and terrorist Zionist regime has now resorted to maritime murder", said Saeed Jalili, dismissing the attack as "terrorist piracy."

He said such moves by the Israeli regime symbolize Tel Aviv and Washington's "60-year opposition to the freedom of nations".

"The behavior of the Israeli regime over the past year, particularly the terrorist act this morning, indicates Obama's peace plan was a deceptive move aiming to buy the Zionist regime time," added Jalili.

He said the Israeli attack on the Gaza aid flotilla is a test of will for all those who claim to be advocates of freedom and human rights.

"The US as well as the Zionist regime's regional and international sympathizers should be accountable to the world public opinion for supporting Tel Aviv," said Jalili.

Arab world condemns Gaza aid attack
Mon, 31 May 2010 08:37:56 GMT

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa
The Arab world has united to condemn the Israeli forces' attack on a flotilla of ships carrying humanitarian supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip.

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa slammed the Monday's deadly raid against the humanitarian mission as a "crime."

"We condemn this crime, taken against a humanitarian mission and people. They were trying to help people. They were not on a military mission. Everyone should condemn this," Moussa told AFP. The AL chief said that the 22-member organization was now contemplating its "next step" against Israel.

Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas also termed the Israeli attack a "massacre," calling for a three-day strike in the West Bank, Press TV correspondent in Ramallah said. Abbas also warned that the lethal assault would jeopardize the US-sponsored indirect negotiations with Israel.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri was also quick to slam the deadly Israeli raid as "dangerous and crazy", stressing that the action would only intensify tensions in the region.

"Lebanon firmly denounces this attack and calls on the international community, notably major powers... to take action in order to end this continued violation of human rights and threat to international peace," AFP quoted Hariri as saying.

Ibrahim Mousavi, the media spokesman for Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement, condemned the attack and offered sympathy to the families of the killed aid workers.

Meanwhile in Egypt, the opposition Muslim Brotherhood joined voice to slam the latest Israeli violence, urging President Hosni Mubarak to cut all Cairo-Tel Aviv ties. The movement also called on the Egyptian government to open the Rafah crossing.

Palestine's democratically elected Premier Ismail Haniyeh called on all supporters of the Palestinian cause to stage massive protests against Israel's "act of piracy," urging the Arab world to take "practical measures" to permanently end the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

At least 20 people were killed and 50 others injured when the Israeli navy stormed the Gaza Freedom Flotilla early on Monday. The convoy was intercepted in international waters, some 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.

Ahmadinejad slams Israel convoy attack
Mon, 31 May 2010 08:22:48 GMT

Iran has condemned Israel's deadly attack on a flotilla carrying thousands of tons of supplies for Gaza, calling the regime in Tel Aviv a threat to global peace and security.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad rejected the notion on Monday that the Israeli raid on the Freedom Flotilla was indicative of Tel Aviv's military muscle, explaining further that it was a mere symbol of its weakness.

President Ahmadinejad said Israel was "fabricated not only with the aim of gaining control over the Middle East but also over the entire world."

Calling for international efforts to save the Palestinian nation, the Iranian president said, "Supporting the people of Palestine is equal to supporting peace and freedom of every nation."

In separate remarks, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili also blasted Israel for the deadly attack and called it a sign of Israeli weakness.

Jalili went on to say that the convoy raid proved US President Barack Obama's 'peace plan' for the Middle East as a "cheat."

Meanwhile, Spokesman for the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali described the fatal attack by Israel on the Gaza aid convoy a "war crime." Jalali also criticized Tel Aviv for being a "threat to global security."

The condemnations come after Israeli forces launched an early morning attack on the international aid fleet en route to the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 20 people and leaving scores injured.

EU demands inquiry into Israeli raid
Mon, 31 May 2010 08:50:47 GMT

Hours after the Israeli military attacked a Gaza-bound aid convoy, the European Union Foreign Policy chief calls for a full inquiry into the deaths of those on board the flotilla.

A spokesperson for the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton expressed her regret on the loss of lives and use of violence as the news of Israel's attack on the Freedom Flotilla shook the world on Monday.

"On behalf of the European Union she demands a full inquiry about the circumstances in which this happened ... She calls for an immediate, sustained and unconditional opening of the crossing for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and persons to and from Gaza," Reuters reported the EU official as saying.

The condemnation came after Israeli forces launched an early morning attack on the international aid fleet en route to the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to the al-Aqsa TV channel, at least 20 people were killed in the attack and more than 50 others were wounded. Nine Turkish nationals were reportedly among those dead.

Amid public outrage over the Israeli act of violence, the Arab League, Turkey, and Iran were among the first to condemn the attack.

Palestine's democratically elected Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh also called on Arab leaders to take practical steps to end the siege on Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, as part of a global reaction to the deadly attack, Turkey, Sweden, Greece, and Spain summoned Israeli envoys to Ankara, Stockholm, Athens, and Madrid.

Emergency Rally Monday in NYC, May 31, 3 pm, 47th Street & 7th Avenue

Follow-up Rally Tuesday, June 1 , 5pm, 42nd Street & 2nd Avenue

Israeli Forces Murder Human Rights Activists and Injure Scores More, New Yorkers plan street action and demand immediate freeze of aid to Israel.

On Memorial Day, as Americans mourn the loss of lives in our nation's wars, people in the US and around the world will be mourning and rallying against the assassination of human rights activists killed by Israeli snipers with bullets paid for by US tax dollars. While reports continue to stream in so far, ten activists are reported dead with over fifty wounded by the Israeli Military takeover of the ships early Monday morning.

The killed and wounded were members of a humanitarian aid convoy bound for the Palestinian Gaza strip sailing under the name of the Free Gaza Flotilla. The Flotilla which comprises over 700 people from 40 countries was in international waters when the Israeli
Military forces boarded and began shooting passengers.

Initially, the flotilla was surrounded by 14 Israeli warships as Israeli military helicopters hovered above. In a calculated military operation, Israeli soldiers then roped down onto the boats and began shooting. Live footage from one of the boats reveals the Israeli soldiers were heavily masked and carrying live ammunition which they used on the unarmed passengers. None of the passengers or activists were armed.

The Israeli government in recent days announced its intention to prevent the Humanitarian Aid Flotilla from reaching the Palestinian shores of Gaza. Tonight, Israeli officials stated that Israeli Armed Forces opened fire because the boats refused to dock in the Israeli
port of Ashdod.

Flotilla organizers have pointed out that on all prior occasions when the Israelis made this demand, the Israelis seized and refused to release the aid supplies. The organizers support their position by noting that the point of their trip is the long standing Israeli
siege of Gaza which prevents Palestinians in Gaza from accessing the most basic food and medical items.

Protests have already broken out around the world. Huge numbers in Ankara and Istanbul have been demonstrating all day Sunday, and after news of the Israeli military operation leaked, the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul was occupied by Turkish activists enraged at the sniper operation.

A wide coalition of activists, including Al-Awda NY and the Gaza Freedom March, are calling for rallies in NY tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday . Organizers are asking people to call the State Department and your Congressional representatives to demand that all aid to Israel, military and economic, be cut off.

Sheikh Raed Salah seriously injured in the IOF assault on Freedom Flotilla
[ 31/05/2010 - 07:53 AM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Sheikh Raed Salah, the leader of the Islamic movement in the 1948 occupied Palestinian lands, was seriously injured in the Israeli occupation forces' (IOF) assault on the Freedom Flotilla at dawn Monday, Hebrew media reported.

The Hebrew radio said that the IOF attack killed 16 solidarity activists and wounded about 60 others.

Sheikh Kamal Al-Khatib, the deputy leader of the Islamic movement, charged the IOA with attempting to assassinate Sheikh Salah, making use of the attack on the flotilla as an excuse.

The IOF used live bullets and teargas bombs in the attack on the ships carrying hundreds of solidarity activists and thousands of tons of medical aid and other relief material to the besieged people of Gaza.
