Actually, the oldest historical claim that Hebrews (as a distinct people) have goes back to about 700 BC or so. Much of their history, like the captivity in Egypt, is a myth. The most ancient Hebrews were just a Bedouin tribe... that is, Arabs. There ia good argument that the first Jews, as Jews, were those who rejected Jesus Christ. It was their hatred that made them a new nation and an example to Christians of a people lost to evil.
